FLYING UNIVERSITY AT THE SCULPTURE PARK. Toguna
The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw is pleased to announce a new lecture as part of the Bródno Sculpture Park Flying University. At the meeting Dariusz Żukowski will talk about a sculpture by Youssouf Dara and Paweł Althamer titled "Toguna" (2011).
Althamer met Youssouf Dara during his first trip to Mali. The two sculptors recreated an important meeting place for the Dogon tribe, which Dara comes from, in Bródno. A toguna is a wooden shed with a thick roof based on sculpted columns. It’s a significant element of Dogon culture, serving as a place for meetings and village gatherings. The structure in Park Bródnowski is not only a potential place for social integration; it also serves the mundane function of a bus stop.
