The fourteenth edition of Sculpture Park takes place under the motto 'What the Park says' and takes the form of open-air educational activities that draw on the rich tradition of social art and artistic practices that address the theme of being together.
Building on the experience of previous years, we want to continue the artistic experiment by devoting more attention to everyday presence in this space and to socialise the Sculpture Park by giving the initiative back to people for whom this place is an important point on the daily activity map.
In particular we are developing long-term cooperation with the district's educational institutions and cultural institutions. First of all we are also continuing a three-year educational programme aimed in particular at people who work on a daily basis with children and young people in the Targówek district, for whom the Park could be a space where their project can be realised. Recently there have been many Ukrainian and Russian speakers among them, so an important element of our activities will be an attempt to use art as a tool for integration and communication for the various groups currently connected to the district.
One of the main forms of realising this idea will be animation weekends taking place throughout the summer holidays. Prepared in collaboration between residents and guests invited by the Museum of Modern Art, the activities will be carried out in Polish-Ukrainian duets, using the Tea House - the smallest community centre in Warsaw and at the same time a sculpture co-creating the Park.
We want to return to the basic ideas that constitute this place: being together, which supports the exchange of ideas; a cashless economy and social interaction. At the same time, to create a space of safe, multilingual expression, where no matter where you are from, you can develop the space around you according to your needs.
Every summer Wednesday, as part of the afternoon series Academy in the Park, we invite you to outdoor events led by artists working with different communities. The programme includes: poetry and music evenings focused on experimental forms of expression in the open air, meetings with women who formed one of the first domestic workers' unions, and the opportunity to meet creative communities from Belarus and Ukraine.
This year, the Bródno Sculpture Park operates in partnership with the Solidarity Community Centre "Słonecznik" and the Social Arts specialisation realised at the UW Institute of Polish Culture, as well as the Cultural Cooperative. We hope that our activities will contribute to the process of learning and socialising the Bródno Sculpture Park, and create conditions for giving initiatives to the residents of the district.
